3 Things That Could Get Your Comments Deleted
Written by Andre on April 2, 2010 – 3:02 PM -Ever written what you considered a really excellent positive and timely comment to a blog you liked, only never to see it approved? Or even worse, to see it for a couple of days, then have it disappear?
More than likely it is nothing to worry about. Some blog owners may not get around to checking their “comments to be approved” section for a few days or they may hit the wrong button when deleting possible spam (we all have probably realized a split second too late that we have just deleted a favorite follower’s post by mistake).
But if you start to see this as a pattern on a regular basis, make sure you are not doing these common, unwitting mistakes…
1. Leaving incredibly short, simple comments.
That could have been a really sincere comment when you wrote: “Cool blog! I’m so glad I discovered this site!” but unfortunately, that is just what spammers do and you can bet that comment will be deleted.
FIX: Be sure you are leaving comments that will contribute to the conversation. Maybe you could reference some specific point that was made that you agreed or disagreed with in the post. You could offer an alternative viewpoint, share a little more on the subject (providing you know some fact that adds to the post value).
And if you are having trouble coming up with more than: “Oh Wow! I love your blog!” – then it is not really worth commenting at all, even though you were sincere with your comments.
2. You have accidentally violated a rule.
For instance, you have included a link in your comment, when the blog’s guidelines specifically say “no URL’s in comments”; or you might be using aggressive or crude language and offended the shy owner of the warhammer blog with your raunchy old lady knitting comments.
3. You have just posted something extremely dazzling that makes the poster look bad – especially if he is a direct competitor.
This would be what you call “not being very smart” in the real world, and akin to beating the boss at golf. And who would want to suffer those consequences?
Fortunately, it does not happen too often… but if you can shake your competitor so badly that he stoops to deleting or not acknowledging your comment – you will not need much help in the near future with your linking efforts!
