Offline Marketing for the Online Business

Written by Andre on March 13, 2011 – 1:42 PM -

An interesting article about marketing your online business offline that you might enjoy.

Online business owners often ignore all the offline marketing opportunities that exist in favor of only online marketing efforts. The problem is, if you do that you’re missing out on a lot of prospects who exists outside of your comfort zone. By adding offline marketing channels to your online marketing efforts you will increase your profits substantially.  There are a variety of ways to market offline. Some involve a lot of money and effort, others are almost free, all will produce results over time. Much like you participate in online groups to network with those who might use your services, take your class, or buy your eBooks, you can do the same with offline advertising.

Direct mail — You can purchase offline  leads from a variety of different sources online relatively cheaply. These will be available for download in data that you can use easily to automate your ability contact your leads with your offline marketing. The United States Postal Service has a lot of automated services to help you with sending out post cards. You can also use a service such as Send Out Cards with your data, to get your information into the hands of your prospects.

Magazine ads –Yet, another offline marketing method is to find print magazines that are sent to people who might be interested in your particular online business niche, create an outstanding advertisement, and collect targeted leads in that manner. If you’re a consultant, coach, virtual assistant, or you have an awesome business opportunity there are plenty of magazines in which to advertise.  It’s a myth that online businesses can only drive targeted traffic to their websites via online methods, using offline advertising is an excellent way to get results.

Picking a magazine — Place ads in magazines that your target market reads. You can do this in a variety of ways, with a traditional advertisement or with an article or even a feature story about your business. If you’re exceptionally successful sometimes you can get such stories placed free. A good example is if your target market is stay at home moms, you can place ads or get a feature story in any magazine that moms read. The magazine does not need to be about business directly, but instead can attract the readers who you would like to reach.

Newspaper advertising — Advertising in newspapers is another way to attract hits to your website. There are services that allow you to place ads in a variety of newspapers across the country at a discount. Try using one of these services to see what response you receive. Just as with all other marketing efforts, you must test and track each method so that you can improve upon your efforts. Since your business is online and your target market lives all over the world, you do not have to limit your ads to just local papers, you can place ads all over the world if you have them translated into the appropriate language.

Press Releases — Press releases are one of the last few free methods of getting the word out. Do not only use the online services. Develop or buy a list to send your press releases to. While you can now do this “online” it is still an offline method of marketing if you are ensuring that your press release is sent to the right contacts. Be aware that a lot of press release services use the “noodle stick” method of sending out a press release. They just throw it out and see if it sticks to something. This is not a good way to send out a press release. Study your market, study the places you send the release to and get it in the right hands for the best effect.

Market Your Online Business Offline By Teaching A Class

Written by Andre on March 9, 2011 – 4:55 PM -

You don’t have to be a college graduate to teach classes to help promote your online business offline. Teaching is an excellent way to market your online business offline because it simultaneously gets your story out, while establishing you as an expert in a way that can be used both on and offline.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute — These are often housed in a local community college or university you can do a quick Google to find out where one is located near you. Then you simply contact them to offer your services to teach a class in your area of expertise.  They will send you information back about how long the class should be, and the available schedule. Then you will have to submit curriculum.

You will not be paid for these services although if your class needs to purchase supplies they will charge a fee. Depending upon where and who is in charge of your local center you may or may not be able to overtly advertise but you’ll be seen as an expert by everyone around you, and you can tell what you do in your introduction which will be live, and in your handouts as well as in the class schedule online and offline.

Create your own venue — You can rent a venue in order to teach your class. The good thing about this method is you can choose to charge, or not to charge and market on the back end. To make this work you will need to have awesome professional physical products to sell when your event is over, as well as information that will lead them to your website to join your membership program, purchase your services, or other products.

Do not over look inexpensive venues such as churches, community centers, and even apartment complex club houses to rent as a place to teach your class. You can make it a one day class, or a multi day class. Check with your chamber of commerce to see if they have space too. Having your own venue is nice when you’re trying to market your online business offline because you make the rules.

Teach to clubs — There are many clubs and organizations that have “educational” programs who will be happy to have you come teach them something about your niche. From the senior center, to local mom clubs you can find a group that will want you to teach them what you know about your niche.
