Successful Viral E-mail Marketing Exposed
Written by Andre on March 17, 2010 – 8:39 PM -Do you know the secret of successful viral e-mail marketing? One of the most important points of e-mail marketing is to get your message out to the inbox of as many people as possible. It would be even better if you could get other people to get that word out there for you. I mean, wouldn’t it be awesome if you could just send out an e-mail to say 100 people and those 100 people would send it out to 3 people each? Now your readers have increased by three-fold! Now you see what viral marketing can do.
Then how can we get those emails to go viral? The secret behind getting viral is to give your readers something that they really enjoy. If people like what you are sending, they are much more likely to send your e-mail to their friends and family. The success of viral e-mail marketing is all about getting your message out to as many people by getting other people to “spread the word”, so be sure to give your readers what they really want.
What are they interested in? Some recent studies have found that internet users forward e-mails that have humorous content more often than any other type of e-mail. If you have e-mails that will make someone laugh, then you can bet they will want to forward it on to their friends and probably everyone else in their e-mail address book. That’s the real secret!
As an excellent example – a few years ago a photograph went viral through forwarded emails. Millions of people had a look at it – you might have even got it in your e-mail inbox. There was a picture of Ronald McDonald (the clown mascot of the food spot- McDonald’s) being taken off by the police in handcuffs. It seems, a person in a clown’s suit had appeared somewhere he shouldn’t have been. It was bringing attention to the serious situation of someone being arrested. But, is was also a HUGE free ad for McDonald’s. With the image of Ronald clearly in their memory, people were much more likely to hop to a McDonald’s next time they were hungry.
We know you don’t own a multi-national brand like McDonald’s and that is alright – doesn’t mean you can’t still benefit from viral e-mail marketing. Some beginner ideas might include a funny comic strip along with your marketing message. You could even create a funny cartoon that makes fun of a popular social idea (like a politician) and you could include a link to your website in the corner of the cartoon. There are certainly plenty of things that you could do to start getting your message to go viral!
